Everyone can use a little extra help being fit. Apps that use GPS provide benefits to everybody looking for a boost. From stats, to social, to an easy way to keep track of your workouts these apps meet a need felt by almost every user. Get more from yourself with these fitness apps.
Pretty much all of these apps have a free version and a paid version. We have included links to the free versions wherever possible.
1. Sports Tracker 



Sports Tracker turns your smartphone into what they call a “powerful, full-featured sports computer.” The app will track things like your time, distance covered, step count, speed, and heart rate (if using compatible Bluetooth heart rate monitor) in addition to creating a map of your activity. It also has a photo integration which will place any photos you took on your run on your map. This app is free and available on a wide range of mobile phone platforms.
2. Endomondo 




Endomondo is a like a social network for working out. Available on a wide variety of phones and platforms, this app easily integrates with the largest social network in the world, Facebook. This makes sharing your workouts with those that are keeping you honest even easier. The GPS tracking for the app is solid, allowing real-time tracking by friends on the Endomondo website and creating accurate tracks for you to review as soon as your workout is over. You can even receive pep talks from your friends from Endomondo while you are working out! The app comes in a free and paid version.
3. iMapMyRun 


iMapMyRun is allows users track their route, time, distance, speed, pace and calories in real-time for their fitness activities using a GPS enabled mobile device. Available on Android, iPhone, and Blackberry this fitness tracker has several other sister applications for different activities such as bicycling, walking, and hiking.
4. Runstar 
Runstar is a simple, good looking app that lets you keep track of your workouts while working toward your fitness goals. The way it looks has won awards and mentions from the likes of Gizmodo and Droid Week. The app is not integrated with a website where you can see your workouts away from your phone and all workout data is stored locally, so if you change phones you will lose all your data. This app is available only on Android.
5. Runkeeper 
Only available on Android, this run tracking app provides much that you would expect from a GPS running app. In addition to mapping, Runkeeper also integrates with third party heart rate monitors, estimates your calories burned, and gives audio cues during your workout.
6. runtastic 




runtastic lets you do all sorts of things with your runs and the GPS data from them. Each track you create integrates with Google Maps and can be viewed in real time by your friends on the runtastic website. Your website experience is configurable, letting you put the data most interesting to you on the dashboard.
